Evaluation Guidelines for Instructor Trainer Mentorships

The Instructor Trainer Candidate will be evaluated by:
- observation and discussion before, throughout and after the mentorship course(s),
- oral presentations demonstrating ability to communicate course content, and
- ongoing evaluation (by observation) of the participant’s performance in the areas of safety, care of equipment, group dynamics, student assessment and feedback, self-care, and leadership.
Each item will be assessed a pass, weak, or fail grade during the course. Prior to the assessment, the mentor will clearly outline the criteria for grading. Candidates will be graded in each category. A pass is required on all items in a category, but one weak oral presentation may be accepted at the discretion of the mentor.
Instructor Trainer Candidates will demonstrate all the skills at a high level of proficiency suitable for instructional demonstration purposes.
General paddling skills will exceed minimum skills and be suitable to the instructional environment.
