Minimum Course Length
Learn about the various policies related to minimum course length.
The course length includes instruction, assessment activity and will include activities conducted in the classroom, onshore, on the water, and other appropriate venues. Unless specified otherwise in the manual, course dates may be adjacent or spread over a longer period. Courses can be scheduled to feature separate phases for training and final assessment.
When a camping course is combined with a Paddle Canada paddling course the minimum course length is the sum of the minimum course lengths of the two courses. The course day can be up to 12 hours in recognition of the onshore camping learning that occurs.
Additional time may be added to the course length if any of the following are to be included in the course: preliminary assessment of lower-level skills, substantial review of skills from previous levels, or upgrading of weak prerequisite skills. When offering a certification course in combination with a combined objective, example: guided tour or secondary certification, sufficient time must be built into the tour to ensure that all skills are adequately covered.
