A Paddle Canada Instructor will:
- exemplify a spirit of cooperation in the development and delivery of all Paddle Canada programs,
- commit to an on-going understanding and knowledge of all Paddle Canada programs,
- upgrade their knowledge and skills in all aspects of camping, paddling and instructing on a continuing basis,
- identify and accept their limitations and be receptive to their personal growth and mutual learning within peer and mentorship processes,
- demonstrate excellence in written and oral communication, including course administration and correspondence with Paddle Canada,
- provide effective, creative and alternative examples of lesson plans to students,
- show, by example – how to teach to a variety of learners,
- model strong, adaptive class management skills and strategies,
- provide learning opportunities for each individual student,
- maintain objectivity at all times,
- identify clear benchmarks for success and communicate exactly what the assessment and evaluation criteria will be,
- ensure timely, individual feedback is provided which gives the learner defined criteria for passing or failing, and
- schedule a final debrief with each student which gives a clear road map for future learning.
